“Il Gran Cavallo, as of May, 1991:  This is the life-size maquette based on the historic Sforza equestrian monument planned by Leonardo da Vinci, and envisioned once again by Captain Charles C. Dent, beginning in 1977.  This sculpture was produced for Leonardo da Vinci’s Horse, Inc., Fogelsville, Pennsylvania, between April, 1988, and June, 1991.  It was constructed of plastlina clay over a steel and wood armature, measuring 96 inches high from horseshoes to ear tips, and weighed  about two tons.  This maquette no longer exists, having been destroyed about 1996, when Nina Akamu was hired to rework this Horse.  This image represents the original work that preceded her modifications.
